About Richard Shephard
Hey! Thanks for stopping by my website. I'm Richard and amongst many other things, I am a photographer. I've been one about as long as I can remember. When I was a kid I nicked my Dad's old manual film SLR and took pictures at parties and holidays. I liked being in control of the picture, and people paying attention to get their photograph taken!
Dad gave great careers advice. When I was thinking about what to do with my life, he said there are jobs out there you don't even know exist yet. And he was right. I had no idea people got paid to photograph weddings, or that it could be so much fun. I started in 2003, and have loved it ever since. I spent my first years as a photographer becoming familiar with the technical side of things and now, while I never want to stop learning new tricks, I'm at an exciting stage where the dials and numbers come pretty well naturally, and I get to concentrate on the people in front of the camera and getting the very best out of them, which is awesome.
I grew up in Bracknell, went to uni in Cambridge, moved to Northampton after that, and then in 2008 to Solihull, where I now live and work. When I'm not working I love movies, meeting up with my family and friends (some of whom are brides and grooms who I've kept in touch with!) and very occasionally doing worthwhile things like running or cooking.
I have to say, I absolutely LOVE my job. People keep telling me how lucky I am to do it, so don't worry, I know! Weddings in particular are not for every photographer, but I just think they're the best. I've got to put this down to my fabulous brides and grooms wanting to choose someone they can connect with on a personal level and genuinely enjoy having their photos taken.
