The Corus Hotel

Added Monday 31st March 2008

On Thursday I took some photographs at the Corus Hotel in Shirley. I've enjoyed working in the past with Sarah Jefferson, the hotel's contact for weddings, so I was delighted to be asked to photograph a reception setup and honeymoon suite for their new promotional materials.

Click here for details about the hotel, and get in touch with Sarah to find out more about the Corus's excellent facilities, including the Four Ashes Suite, shown here.

Flowers and decorations were provided by Wedding Wishes.

Technology

Added Friday 28th March 2008

Somewhere around 1994, our class was taken on a school trip to a lecture on communications, sponsored by cellnet. The speaker predicted that by the year 2000, we would each have our own mobile phone. How we laughed! But what do you know? By 2000, some of us were on our 2nd or 3rd handset!

My point is it's easy to forget how much has changed in recent years, and for many, it's hard to keep up! This week I helped my Grandma set up her wireless broadband and shiny new macbook. She's never used a computer before, but said she wanted to learn so she could email our family overseas and keep up with all of us as we raced around the country!

This got me thinking about what's really important about technology - It can help us to connect with each other. You can talk to your friends at a moment's notice, see loved ones across the globe, and of course, share photographs and enjoy them in different ways - on your computer, the internet, your ipod, TV, or by making prints. (I recommend the blue and silver 1hr/24hr kiosks at boots, not so much the instant yellow ones.)

The other thing to remember is that for years to come, you'll have great ways to enjoy your images (I'm thinking of Tom Cruise in Minority Report with his holographic home movie!) but you have to capture the images now, while you can! So be sure to choose a photographer for your wedding who you feel really happy with, and are confident will take the photos you are hoping for.

It's been important to me for years to include the CD-ROM with copyright permission, and it's now in all my standard packages. People have been scanning (or - shudder - colour photocopying) their wedding photos for years now to reproduce them with varying quality! I'd rather you did a good job of it, and didn't have to feel guilty. Of course you can still buy prints, enlargements and canvases from our website.

By the way, as well as taking photos, I just love photographs. So feel free to show me your shots before the wedding, or of what went on after I left the reception, the day after, or what the kids got up to! And if you found my website, that goes for you too, Grandma!

Doug and Helen, engagement shoot

Added Monday 24th March 2008

At one point this afternoon it looked like we'd actually have snow for Doug and Helen's engagement pictures! So when Helen emerged from the car without a coat I knew she was keen to take some beautiful photographs. And she certainly has! It may have been cold this weekend, but this lovely couple definitely warmed up the pictures.

I'm so pleased to be photographing Doug and Helen's wedding in August, and it's especially nice to do it at a church I know so well as St. Peter & St. Paul's. It's going to be a beautiful wedding, and I'm sure Helen will get her blue skies on the day!

Happy Easter!

Added Saturday 22nd March 2008

Wishing you all a very happy Easter. I hope you're having a great weekend, and either enjoying some peace and quiet, or doing something fun! I'm very much looking forward to Sunday lunch with my wonderful family!

Grace and peace,

Richard

72 hours, 2000 brochures, 500 DVDs later...

We're back from the National Wedding Show 2008! It was tiring, but we loved it. It was great to meet so many brides, grooms, mums, dads and others. If you left your details at the stand, I'll get in touch in a week or two to see how you're getting on. If you stopped by for a chat or picked up some information, do browse the site and get in touch. I'd love to hear your thoughts so far on photography, and what you want your wedding to look like!

We met some interesting exhibitors around our stand. 2have2hold were selling an impressive range of gorgeous dresses just opposite us, and Crumbs! had some tasty looking cakes which, sadly, did not require eating at the end of the weekend as we had hoped!

The fashion show was very impressive...

From my glamourous assistant Susie, and myself, thankyou to all those who visited, and especially those who booked me for their wedding. If you didn't get a chance to come, don't worry. Give me a call and we'll arrange your own private show in your living room!

National Wedding Show

Everything's ready. I've got albums, slideshows, furniture, mini-eggs and about a million brochures...

Tomorrow I'm off to set up shop at the National Wedding Show in the NEC, Birmingham. The show is open from 10 to 6 Friday and Saturday, and 10 to 5 Sunday. If you're coming along, be sure to come and say hi! You'll find my glamorous assistant Susie and myself at stand A12.

Holiday Inn wedding fair

Added Sunday 9th March 2008

It was great to meet so many brides today and hear about their wedding plans. If you were able to come, then thankyou for stopping by, and I hope to see you again soon.

It's also really good to grab the odd few minutes with other wedding suppliers and chat about the latest ideas in the wedding market. Here are some photos grabbed in spare moments between visitors!

The Holiday Inn is a great venue for civil ceremonies and receptions, and has beautiful grounds for some really great photographs. Their wedding coordinator Kelly, is a pleasure to work with.

Other delicious things to be found at the Holiday Inn...

Dan and Zoe, engagement shoot

Added Saturday 8th March 2008

Dan & Zoe seem to compliment each other perfectly, right down to their matching blue and pink hoodies! It was fun to see them again and walk round their wedding venues, with Dan picking up big plant pots that had blown over as we discussed their wedding details.

From what I've heard of their plans, it's going to be an awesome day, and the Tally Ho is a wonderful setting. I hope Dan and Zoe are blown away, but in a less literal way than they were on Saturday!

New website launched

Added Friday 7th March 2008

Our new website is now live and updated for the 2008/9 season. It's bigger, brighter and cleverer than ever!

The wedding galleries are enhanced with slideshows and a 'featured images' gallery of Richard's pick of images from your wedding. Use this gallery or slideshow for a quick view of some beautiful photographs, or scour the 'all images' gallery for the full selection. Each wedding gallery now features a guest book, so please do leave your comments and best wishes. Be creative! Tell the bride and groom how much you enjoyed the day, how fabulous they looked, etc.

We've also added an interactive feedback page. If Richard was your wedding photographer, or if you've browsed his images or seen him at work, he'd love to know what you thought.

Thanks to Kyle of Created Media for his excellent work on the interactive features of the site.

Beautiful Photographs Beautiful Blog

Added Thursday 6th March 2008

Welcome to my blog! I wanted the site to be so much more than an online brochure, so the blog is here to keep you up to date on me and my business. I know I keep banging on about how important it is to choose not just photographs but a photographer, but it really is true. Especially with all-day 'reportage' style photography, your photographer will be around you much of the time. Not only is it nice to choose someone you like, but if you don't get on with your photographer, it simply won't work. Unless you feel relaxed and enjoy being around him or her, they'll have a hard time drawing the best out of you in the photographs.

Hopefully from the following posts you'll get a sense of what it's really like to work with me. But there's only one way to be sure - phone me up!
