Tony and Jo were the first couple I offered a "free trial shoot" to. As in, taking photos before a couple even books me to prove just how nice I am! I remember enjoying our first meeting and hoping they would book me, being such a friendly (not to mention attractive) couple!
Here's Jo with her girls getting ready at home.
Jo you're gorgeous. Simple as. :-)
The ceremony was at St. Osburgs in Coventry, where Tony's family has a long history.
There's something about Tony that inspires confidence and calm. Look, he's not even nervous!
I love taking photos in Catholic churches...
And on to the West Midlands Golf Club for the reception. There's a picture of me on facebook, wobbling on a ladder to get this group shot. Courtesy of my friend and second photographer for the day, Natalie Miller.
Yup, bingo.
Jo had chosen some wonderful details for the reception, like these Alice in wonderland inspired vintage cake stands, and decorating the tables with assorted colourful buttons.
Here's Jo making her lovely Mum laugh. And you can see the cute bunting they hung all around the marquee.
Sometimes at a wedding I'll accidentally witness a beautiful moment. Like this one where Tony and Jo looked out over the lake at dusk as the thunderstorm rolled in, and Jo said to her husband, "whenever I hear the thunder or see the lightning, I'll always remember this." Tony and Jo, you are good, kind and wonderful loving people. You deserve every ounce of happiness to fall on your lives like the rain from a thunderstorm! And I know you will always remember that moment.
In the evening the dancing was led by an Irish dance academy, and I can tell you, the Irish contingent of the family LOVED IT! You should have heard them!
Being 29
Added Friday 25th June 2010
For the last year or so I've been going round telling everyone I'm in "my mid-to-late twenties."
But from next Sunday I will have to accept that is no longer the case. Yes internet it's true. I'm turning thirty. I know what you're thinking...how is that possible? Or maybe "wait...you're not already?"
I can hardly believe I've been in business for seven years now. I went to a photography business seminar a couple of weeks ago, and was surprised to learn just how many beginners there are in the wedding photography market! The inspiring Catherine Connor asked us all to put up our hands. Then she said to take down your hand if you'd been in business less than a year....MOST hands went down. Then two years...many more hands and so on. Then finally when she got to five years plus, it was pretty much just me and Carole on the back row left. I felt like an old hand! But everyone has to start somewhere, and I'm SO flattered to have TWO wedding photographers choose me for their own weddings this year. And I'm seeing them both tomorrow!!
Yesterday I met with Dion and Sarah, SUCH a sweet couple down at westonbirt arboretum, and signed them up for their wedding this September. That brings my year up to a pretty decent level that I'm really chuffed with. Each year my work builds and grows and my style and skills develop, even after all this time and hundreds and hundreds of weddings! I've spent a while this month organising some of my favourite portfolio images and grinning like a fool. I'm excited to see what I can do for my lovely lovely customers this year, next year, and each year after.

amusing web searches
Added Monday 21st June 2010
I've been playing around with google's webmaster tools and found some interesting results. These are ACTUAL search strings that people entered and found my website. There are loads of random ones and some of them I can see how they got there from various blog entries, and the names of couples I've photographed. But there are some that are just plain WEIRD.

Cambridge
Added Saturday 12th June 2010
It's been almost ten years since I left Cambridge, and it's fun to have an excuse to go back there every now and then. My little sis Nix is now studying at Ridley Hall, and I got to go along as her guest to the leaver's ball at the college.
"E staircase" is the best, or so I'm reliably informed!
Any excuse to dress up like James Bond! Everyone looks great in a tux though hey?
