bride checking her makeup“I love pictures of people! Some photographers love beautiful landscapes, some the precision of architecture, and others the detail in wildlife. My fascination has always been in capturing a person's feelings in an image. My idea of the perfect photographic shoot would be some kind of emotional day-long event, attended by a large number of people who arrive – smartly turned out – to celebrate with two special people whom they love, and who are in love with each other. After a moving central high-point there would be embracing, laughter, kissing, good food, music and dancing.”

wedding ceremony picturesThis ideal event is of course a wedding, and to move in this atmosphere capturing the very best images a photographer needs a unique set of skills. Richard strikes a perfect balance between reassuring presence and near invisibility! As the only wedding professional to be with you from start to finish, he can guide you effortlessly through the day. Richard gets involved with you and your wedding party, uses their names, and pretty quickly looks more like a friend than anything else - wedding ceremony picturesbut he can blend in when he needs to, and take natural candid pictures of people enjoying themselves. It's not easy to lift a professional camera without drawing attention, but with expensive lenses and crafty misdirection, Richard comes up with some great shots!

No-one really loves standing and posing for photographs (if you do, it's just a bonus!) But working with Richard is refreshingly painless. The romantic couple portraits and group shots are done quickly with minimal fuss. You don't have to pose or do anything ridiculous (unless you want to!) and half the time you won't even realise that he's put you in a great spot to begin with, or reordered the group shots for efficiency. He makes simple suggestions and adjustments to turn simple settings into beautiful photographs. Before the wedding, you'll meet with Richard to make final plans for the big day and take some practise shots. This gives you a chance to get used to being in front of the camera. These are nice 'engagement portraits' to have but mostly, they're a chance to prove to you just how easy it's going to be! Brides and grooms tell us that afterwards they were a lot less anxious about the photos on the day.

The whole wedding party

To put it quite simply, it's vital that you choose a photographer you like and can get along with. It will show in your photographs. Without ever being imposing or demanding, Richard gets involved. That's the difference. That's his edge. And hopefully, that's what you're looking for!
